Mistake #1 Are you leaving your most powerful tool in the bag?
Welcome to my 3 part consultation mini series!
Last week we looked at simple clinic tweaks that boost results. Now let’s talk consultations - the most powerful tool in your kit… and one I still see many therapists leaving in the bag 🫢
I’m sharing the 3 mistakes I see clients make when it comes to consultations, and most importantly how to fix them!
Because if you believe internal health, lifestyle and stress matter as much as products and treatments, then your consultation isn’t a prelude - it’s the work.
The mistake: Not charging (or redeeming the consultation fee against product).
Why it matters: It quietly says the assessment, education and therapeutic relationship are worth less than the retail.
The consult should be where you:
-
actually get to know your client as a person
-
start building a therapeutic relationship so they feel safe to be honest
-
unpack what hasn’t worked and why
-
Start educating your client on their root causes and triggers
That is the work. Charge for it like it matters - because it does.
Here are three simple shifts that can help change everything in your clinic and client experience:
-
Price the consult as a standalone service (not “redeemable against product” - this still sends out the message that the value is in the product not the conversation).
-
Name its value clearly: assessment, pattern-spotting, education, collaborative plan and homework.
-
Protect time for it - don’t squeeze it between treatments.
What do you think, are you innocently making this mistake? Comment with your expeirence below, I'd love to hear.
Tomorrow > Mistake #2 - trying to do the consult live without the right info beforehand.
