You were trained to treat skin. This is where you learn to understand it.
Become the Skin Therapist who can see what's on the surface — and read what's going on beneath.
The Modern Skin Practitioner is a six-month programme for Skin Therapists ready to go deeper.
The longer you've worked with skin, the more you've realised you're no longer just treating skin. You're treating the whole person.
So you've hoovered up every piece of research you can find. You've signed up for the CPD, done the advanced skin conditions and barrier workshops and are working with the best skincare brands. You know that skin doesn't work in isolation and you understand the gut-brain-skin connection (well, the gist of it at least).
You know you should ask your client about sleep. You mention blood sugar. You suggest she increase her protein and you even have a favourite fish oil supplement you recommend.
But it's not always feeling like enough.
Cos knowing the skin science, and knowing what to do with it when a client sits in front of you complaining of her latest breakout when she's been following all your advice, are two very different things.
That isn't a gap in your ability. It's a sign your clinical instinct is outgrowing the way you were originally taught to see skin and the research that's widely taught.
The Modern Skin Practitioner is here to bridge that gap with you.
“I know there's only so much I can do topically”
With your topical approach you know you can get your client from A to Z, you've perfected this over years of experience. But with the internal side of skin health, you feel like you're missing something…or lots of things.
The gut-brain-skin connection isn't some niche, alternative idea anymore. It's real, it's not going anywhere, and the science is growing. But most beauty qualifications haven't caught up. And your clients know it too. They're asking you about the role of their hormones, what probiotic they should be taking.
And then there's that one client. The one who does everything right. Her diet's good, her stress is managed, she follows your advice to the letter. And her skin still keeps coming back.
So more and more, you're left with the sense that there's more going on than you were trained to treat, and the client in front of you deserves more than you feel confident to give.
Modern Skin is asking for something different.
More sensitivity than you used to see. More stressed-out, wired-but-tired clients. More disrupted barriers and dwindling biomes. Skin that doesn't just need calming on the surface, it needs something that actually shifts what's happening underneath it.
I believe Modern Skin is screaming for us to look beneath the surface. To ask the questions that haven't been asked. To make the links nobody else has been able to. To lead the conversation, not just the treatment.
That's The Modern Skin Practitioner.

Taryn Rule
@taryn_rule25 years in practice
After 25 years supporting clients, Taryn knew there was a link between skin and the internal world. What she didn't have was the confidence to bring it into clinic, or the language to share it with clients without overwhelming them.
She joined the Skin Barrier Solution, the programme The Modern Skin Practitioner is built on, to complete the circle.
What she learnt changed how she works. With a clear clinical structure for assessing each client, Taryn now knows what matters most for each individual, and what can wait. She used to feel she had to share everything she knew in the first consultation. Now she paces it. Confident in her clinical reasoning, confident her clients will come back, confident she has time to teach them what they need, when they need it.
That same confidence gave her the structure to build her teenage acne programme online. She's already changed her pricing, her structure, and the conversations she's having.
“This course has helped me connect the dots between skin, hormones, gut health, and the nervous system in a clear, easy to understand way. It's informative, empowering, and full of lightbulb moments – a must for any skin professional wanting to elevate their practice.”
Your training taught you to treat skin. The Modern Skin Practitioner shows you how to read it.
The next step isn't retraining, or a nutrition qualification. It's not learning to run gut panels or blood tests in your own clinic.
You just need to translate what you already know, or are about to know, into a conversation that truly changes something for the person in front of you.
The Modern Skin Practitioner
A six-month programme for experienced Skin Therapists, built around the two things I believe you've been missing: the science behind the skin, and the clarity to make sense of it…
.. so a complex case stops feeling like guesswork and starts falling into place.
You'll know what her skin is telling you — be it Acne, Rosacea, Eczema, Perioral Dermatitis or hormonal changes. She'll leave with a plan that makes sense, and the understanding to stick with it.
And you'll learn the judgement calls it took me years to build myself: when to treat, when to educate, and when to bring someone else in.
Knowing your limits is part of doing this well, not a failure of it.
This is for you if…
You're a qualified, experienced Skin Therapist who knows something internal is driving your clients' skin, and you're ready to lead that conversation with real understanding rather than instinct alone
You've found barrier health or corneotherapy and realised there's still a missing layer: what's disrupting the barrier from the inside
You ask questions about stress, sleep, diet and hormones in your consultations, but you're not always sure what to do with the answers
You have a personal skin story — acne, eczema, rosacea — and want to turn lived experience into clinical understanding
Your client base is shifting. More perimenopause, more hormonal presentations, more complexity. You want to meet them there with confidence
You work alone and want a community of practitioners thinking the same way around you
You want to expand your understanding of skin to serve more clients with less hands-on treatments
It's not for you if…
You're looking for a formal nutrition qualification or a treatment training
You want protocols to follow rather than a way of thinking to master
You're not yet qualified as a Skin or Beauty Therapist
The making of a Modern Skin Practitioner
See + Connect + Guide
A 6 month learning experience to revolutionise the way you see and treat skin.
See
The science. What's happening beneath the skin, and how diet and lifestyle feed into it. This is where we dive deep into the gut-brain-skin connection, hormones, detoxification, nutrition, the immune system, and you get crystal clear on the role of a client's diet and lifestyle on their skin.
Connect
The internal to the external — how the science connects to the client in front of you, making those connections clear to them too. So no more stalling on skin progress.
Guide
Knowing where to start, how to pace change, and how to move a client forward without overwhelming her. So you can finally become the therapist you've been sensing you're capable of being.
Your teacher
Hey, I'm Chloe.
I'm a Registered Nutritional Therapist and women’s health and skin specialist with over 15 years experience.
I didn't come to this work from just a textbook. I came to it from my own skin. Acne through my teens and twenties. Perioral Dermatitis after my daughter was born, along with the tell-tale signs of Rosacea. I've sat in dermatology offices being told there was nothing left to try but medication I didn't want to take, and that nobody could tell me why any of it was happening.
I did eventually find a Skin Therapist who told me my diet wasn't helping. But she couldn't explain why, or what to do instead. Just a list of foods to remove that I found impossible to stick to. It left me more lost than before, and carrying a quiet shame for not managing to follow what she'd told me.
So I went and found out for myself.
And when I started working with skin, I realised the clients in front of me had been on exactly the same loop I had. The brilliant, skilled therapists they'd been seeing had never been given this piece either.
That's what led me to make my first programme for skin professionals. What surprised me was the thirst for it. I've now taught over 100 skin practitioners, some who'd been in the chair for 20+ years, and were still searching for the whole picture. The results have been phenomenal. Tricky cases they used to refer out, kept and resolved. Plateaued skin finally improving. Conversations about gut, hormones and diet led with confidence in every consult. Online skin programmes launched.
But the shift that stayed with me wasn't about results. It was how they felt in the room. They stopped guessing. They stopped going quiet when a client asked the hard question. Often for the first time they felt confident supporting every client achieve their skin goals.
That's what The Modern Skin Practitioner is built to do. It's the education I wish someone had handed me, and handed the therapists who were trying so hard to help me.

Lou Dartford
@loudartfordSkin therapist, Lou Dartford Green Beauty
Lou spent years as a makeup artist before moving into skin, picking up bits of facial work, then more, then calling herself a facialist. But the more faces she worked on, the more she realised how much she didn't know. Clients came in with real concerns, and she didn't always have the answers.
She joined the Skin Barrier Solution, which forms part of the core curriculum for The Modern Skin Practitioner, looking for the missing layer. What she found changed the way she saw her own consultations, and herself.
“A year ago, I would have said, oh I used to be a make-up artist but I've been retraining in skin… but now I'm starting to say I'm a Skin Therapist, without feeling like an imposter so much!”
She's more confident in her advice, asks different questions, and her clients notice. One followed every suggestion Lou made in the run-up to her wedding, and came away feeling completely in control of her skin for the first time.
What's included
Core curriculum
6 modules released monthly with on-demand video lessons, workbooks, handouts and guides.
Optional live calls with Chloe
Connect, reflect and apply that month's learnings to you, your clients and your clinic. All calls are recorded, so you can catch up and rewatch at your leisure.
Skin presentations resource hub
Covering Acne, Rosacea, Perioral Dermatitis, perimenopause and more. Think of these as essential checklists for your most frequent clients.
The community
You won't be doing this alone. The cohort moves through the programme together inside a private community, with questions answered between calls and practitioners around you doing the same work.
You've been doing this long enough that part of you thinks you should already know this. And another part of you wonders: what if I do the course, and I still can't help my client achieve their skin goals?
Here's what I know from over sixteen years studying nutrition, the last eight of them focused entirely on skin, and as a self-confessed CPD junkie: you will never know it all. Nobody does.
What I can promise you is that The Modern Skin Practitioner will give you a way of making sense of what's in front of you. Knowing the right questions to ask. Knowing what sits within your scope, what needs specialist support, and how to handle both with confidence.
Confidence doesn't come from having every answer. It comes from knowing what matters most to get your client from A to B — and that's what I'm here to help you with.
If that's the next chapter you're after, this is it.
Student case study
Emma Paton
@em_skinlabSkinology Pro
Emma knew nutrition, stress and sleep affected skin, but never the mechanism behind why. She could tell a client to eat more vegetables, but without knowing why it mattered, she couldn't speak with real confidence, or know what to say when a client asked for more.
She looked at nutrition qualifications. Too long, too expensive, not specific to skin. She considered functional health coaching, and courses from other skin therapists. None of it felt right, until she found a course built by a qualified nutritionist, specifically for skin.
“I am more confident speaking about the importance of internal health and how it relates to skin health, especially with those with inflammatory skin conditions, so that clients understand that products and treatments alone may not help them resolve their skin. I now feel confident with what I can and cannot say or recommend, and when to refer out to another specialist.”
Two and a half years into her career, she already knows the internal picture that took others decades to find, and is busy planning her online signature skin health programme.
FAQ
How much time does it take?+
Around an hour a week, plus one two-hour live call a month. The lessons are short and on-demand, so you fit them around a working week, not the other way round. The early months are a little heavier (that's where the science sits); the later months are lighter and more about applying what you've learned.
How does the live format work, and when are the calls?+
MSP runs live over six months. One module is released each month, and every call is recorded if you can't make it live. Calls run 11am–1pm UK:
How long do I have access?+
Your workbooks, handouts, guides and checklists are yours to keep for life. The video lessons and call recordings are available until 31st March, and after that you can keep access to the recordings and community for an affordable monthly cost if you'd like to.
Is this only for very experienced practitioners?+
You need to be a qualified, Level 2 Skin or Beauty Therapist to join, but there's no upper experience requirement. I've taught students newly qualified and students twenty years in, side by side, and both have loved what they've learned here. Whether you're just starting out or deep into your career, the programme meets you where you are.
I already know a lot. Will I actually learn something new?+
Definitely, but that's not really the point. Most experienced practitioners tell me the value wasn't more information, it was finally having a way to organise what they already knew, so it becomes a confident conversation instead of a hunch. If you're already working this way informally, MSP is the refinement that makes it click into place. I'm a decade in and still picking things up, that hunger is exactly the mindset this is built for.
I'm moving toward more online consultations. Will this help?+
Yes, more than almost anything else could. The work here is about consultation and understanding, not hands-on treatment, so it translates directly to online work. You'll come out with the internal-health knowledge and the structure that most online skin offerings are missing.
I can't start in September.+
That's honestly fine. MSP is designed to fit around real, busy lives, not the other way round. The live calls are wonderful, and I'd love you on them, but every single one is recorded, and the learning itself is on-demand. As long as you can work through the modules at your own pace over the six months, you'll get an enormous amount from this, whether you make every call live or catch them all on replay. Life happening is not a reason to count yourself out.
Do you offer a payment plan?+
Yes. You can pay in full, or spread it across a payment plan. If you need a bit more flexibility than the standard option to make it work, just reply and ask, I'd always rather help you make it manageable than have cost be the thing that stops you.
Still got questions?
Pop me a DM and we can discuss if MSP is the right next step for you.
